Mexico City (again)πŸ‡²πŸ‡½

June 2026.

Mexico City is truly one of my favorite cities in the world. This trip was my fourth visit, but first time solo. Even after 4 visits, I still feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface. I have an older blog post highlighting some parts of my previous visits, where I did more of the traditional touristy things and visited the popular sites. This trip, however, my only focus was eating and shopping. This was also my first time staying in a hotel instead of an AirBNB, which I loved and will share below.

Mexico City is huge bustling city, with multiple neighborhoods within the city, similar to New York or Tokyo. The city has an impeccable food scene, with international cuisine and world-renowned chefs. I wouldn’t say their shopping is as outstanding as their food scene, but I still found some great pieces. In this post, I’ll share some restaurants and places to shop (mostly clothing and accessories from local designers) organized by neighborhoods. Like I said in my previous blog post about Mexico City, the list of places I share is far from a comprehensive list β€” it’s just a list of some of the places that stood out to me.

And if you want recommendations of the popular tourist attractions, especially for your first visit to Mexico City, take a look at my previous blog post.

Roma Norte

Roma Norte is one of the most (if not most) popular neighborhood of Mexico City. It is a beautiful, walkable neighboord, and the hub to the city’s culinary scene. The streets are line with artsy cafes, unique boutiques, and world-renowned restaurants.

Shopping

  • Irene Buffa β€” Preloved luxury clothing and accessories. Fair prices.

  • Cardon β€” Small shop, all Mexican and latin designers, pricey. There's also a second location in Condesa.

  • Hi-BYE β€”Small shop, seemed mostly like reworked items. Nothing I liked.

  • Casa Ananda Vintage Boutique β€” 3 floors of vintage/thrift items.

  • Blanco Vintage β€” small shop, nothing really caught my eye.

  • Vintage Hoe β€” some new and reworked items from local designers.

  • Bunker Bazar β€” only open Sat - Sun. Great place to find cheaper items.

Eating

  • LoncherΓa VeintidΓ³s β€” good for breakfast, lunch.

  • Margot β€” good for breakfast

  • Madre Cafe β€” good for breakfast

  • Expendio de Maiz β€” very cool concept restaurant. You tell them your dietary restrictions, and they serve what they want until you’re full. Difficult part is that they do not take reservations.

  • TaquerΓa Orinoco β€” casual taqueria with β€œreally good” tacos. Multiple locations in CDMX. Pretty good tacos, but much preferred Tacos del Valle.

  • Tacos del Valle  β€” Michelin rated small taco restaurant. Highly recommend visiting and getting the tijuanita taco β€” best taco I had all trip.

  • PanaderΓa Rosetta β€” bakery with tasty pastries; popular guava croissant. The corresponding restaurant, Rosetta, is Michelin rated and top 50 in the world.

  • Contramar β€” Michelin rated seafood restaurant.

  • Marlindo β€” good for lunch/dinner, casual Baja-California seafood.

  • Babero β€” good for lunch/dinner, Italian restaurant.

  • FORM + MATTER (FO+MA) β€” imaginative cocktail bar.

Condesa/HipΓ³dromo

Condesa is a trendy, laid-back, hipster-like, walkable neighborhood with streets lined with luscious greeny and and abundance of cafes, restaurants, and shops. HipΓ³dromo is a sub-neighborhood in Condesa, including the beautiful central Parque MΓ©xico, and the very popular surrounding street of Avenida Amsterdam.

Shopping

  • Rumor β€” 95% women-owned brands, mostly local designers. Quirky, reimagine pieces, pricey. Also has cafe with great matcha in store.

  • Cardon  β€” small shop, Mexican and latin designers, pricey. There’s also a second location in Roma Norte.

  • PerfumΓ©rica Flagship Store Condesa β€” local perfumery with affordable perfumes, multiple locations in CDMX. Highly recommend visiting the flagship store for a unique scent sampling experience.

  • Delab Vintage

  • Proyecto Rufina β€” popolar for their handmade ceramics and home decor.

  • Laguna Cyprien β€” Mexican-made room fragrances, candles, and personal care products.

  • Ocelote

  • Ppaayyss

  • San Matcha

  • Maque Condesa β€” good for breakfast

  • Bobo Burger & Cafe β€” good for breakfast, popular cornbread pancake.

  • Chilpa β€” good for breakfast

  • Ojo de Agua β€” good for breakfast, lunch.

  • Maizajo β€” Michelin-rated restaurant. They have a sit down restaurant on the top floor, but the real reason to visit is for the first floor taqueria. No reservations, and you stand and eat tacos at the bar with the open kitchen. Can have long wait times, but highly recommend visiting.

  • Felix β€” great spot for pizza with view of Parque Mexico.

  • Castizo Condesa β€” great for lunch/dinner. Spanish cuisine, and delicious cocktails.

Hotel

I stayed at the beautiful Andaz Mexico City Condesa hotel by Hyatt. The hotel is on the Michelin guide and on American Express’s Hotel Collection List. It is a stunning 5-star hotel in Condesa. I booked my stay with AMEX points, which made it even better. The hotel is connected to the Mondrian, and share grounds. The hotel has a cafe, beautiful restaurant on ground floor where breakfast buffet is served, a rooftop restaurant and pool, β€œwooftop” garden space that is pet-friendly, spa, 24-hour room service, and everything else in-between. It is also perfectly located in Condesa, walkable to so many shops and restaurants, Parque Mexico, and nearby Roma Norte neighborhood. I highly recommend staying here, if you are able to.
