I had a wonderful quick weekend getaway in Fredericksburg, which was my first time visiting Texas Wine/Hill Country. It is beautiful and worth the visit. Perfect for a weekend solo, couples’ or girls’ trip, especially if you live in Texas. It is just about 1.5 hours from Austin, an hour from San Antonio, and about 4 hours from Dallas or Houston.

I didn’t initially plan on making a blog post, because we were only there for a short time, but some people have already asked for my recommendations. So, making a blog post is just the easiest way to keep up with all my notes and easily share them. But this is far from a comprehensive list, just a few spots we visited or considered.

• Longneck Manor — feed giraffes, pet rhino. $126 pp

  • Heath Sparkling — Sparkling, $40 pp, with small bite pairings — this was our favorite

    • Don’t recommend the downtown location, visit their ranch for a much more lively time.

  • Signor Vineyards — $35 wine tasting, beautiful grounds and can walk into vineyard — also really liked this vineyard

  • Fischer & Wieser Das Peach House — sweet for $20, no reservation required

    • has a nice little pond on the property that you can sit around and slowly enjoy the wine, very relaxing.

  • Coordinates Vineyard — sparkling + white, $25 pp

  • Slate — $30 pp

  • Augusta Vin — no reservation required for tasting room

  • Pontotoc Vineyard Weingarten — no reservation, flight for $20

  • Six Twist Sparkling — no reservation, flight for $35 (also $15 truffle fries)

Accommodations

We stayed in nice treehouse-like stay called Blue Sage by Honey Tree. It’s a small property with 12 treehouses, all with different designs, just 10 minutes north of main Fredericksburg. There is also a shared communal area with a pool, grill, sauna and cold plunge. But each treehouse is perfectly spaced out from the neighboring one, so you still have some privacy without feeling like you’re in the wilderness.

We stayed in Treehouse No. 12, but also like treehouses 5, 7, and 9. Our house had a loft style with the bed and tub on the top floor. There was also a very nice-sized patio and a reading nook sitting area. We really enjoyed our stay, and recommend checking out.

Other options we considered:

• The Retreat — multiple small “homes”, I like the mirror ones

• Astryia — treehouses, a bit further out, 20 mins from Fredericksburg
